Stress Free Holiday Decorating

As we approach winter, it is time to make sure your holiday decorations are at the ready. Whether you have to start unpacking your Christmas boxes from the attic or Christmas 2021 is the year you will finally shop for new décor, it is just about time to get organized. You may — like me, watch Christmas movies and dream of transforming your living space into a scene from a New York department store. But let’s come back down from the clouds for a minute. Life is hectic. You have gift shopping and wrapping to do, parties to attend, as well as work, chores, and on and on. The days leading up to the holidays can get away from you. So here are some ideas to help you get your home ready for the Christmas season without the stress.

Less is More — Simple décor can transform a home and make a big impact. You do not need to focus on quantity to get the job done. On the contrary. Overly decorated homes can look distasteful or tacky. Strategically placed, simple décor pieces are the goal for a stress-free decorating experience.

Front Door Garland and Wreath — Create curb appeal by furnishing your front door with an elegant garland and wreath to welcome in the holiday season. Buy one ready-made or if you are creative and up for the challenge, you can create one yourself. You can purchase a plain garland and wreath at your local craft store and decorate it with pine cones, plaid bows, and foliage. Try adding some dried orange slices and cinnamon sticks to create an extrasensory experience when guests walk through your door.

Simplify the Tree — Gone are the days where you need to cover your tree in brightly coloured ornaments and tinsel. Go for quality rather than quantity when it comes to tree decorations. Twinkle lights and monochromatic tree ornaments are a classic choice. A neutral colour palette for your tree will help coordinate with any room’s natural décor.

Mantelpiece — A mantel is an ideal spot to bring a little holiday cheer but remember that less is more. Choose a statement-making garland to place or drape across the top of your mantel and place some candlesticks on the top to finish the look. You can hang your stockings from the mantel using small hooks and your home is almost complete!

Table Topper — The holidays bring the family together and get people gathered around the table. Make your table stand out with a seasonal flair. Lay a beautiful garland down the middle of the table and mix in candles for added ambiance.

Scent — A fresh Christmas tree will add the scent of pine to your home but if you don’t plan on a fresh tree this year, you can recreate the fragrance of Christmas with candles. Candles with hints of cedarwood, pine, or fir can help to bring out the holiday feel.
